The Story Behind the Movie

The story really begins with Dustin Kinney. Late one night while watching the movie Gladiator, Dustin and a friend decided in a moment to fly around the world and visit and help people in desperate need. Along their trip they ended up in a western city of Thailand named Mae Sot. It was there they met Pastor Winai who runs an orphanage with over 100 children in it.

They stayed for about 3 months helping the children learn English and many other life lessons. After a week with the kids they learned that these kids were not from Thailand. They were Karen (Kah-rin) children from the neighboring country called Burma. It was then Pastor Winai began to explain to them all the devastating tragedies only a few miles west.

In the Summer of 2004 Dustin brought two of his closest friends to Thailand to meet the children at the orphanage. Instantly David and Brett fell in love with the playful and energetic Karen children. From that moment the Karen people were burned into the hearts of David and Brett. David even brought more people out to visit in early 2006 and work for a few months at the orphanage.

While David was in Thailand, Brett and Dustin worked to convince Bryan to possibly start working on a video project that would document the lives and struggles of these people. Their first mission was to travel to Washington D.C. for a conference concerning the genocide in the country. It was there that Bryan realized an opportunity to make change during an event [coincidently] held by Invisible Children.

During an all-night movement called the Global Night commute for the children of Uganda, Bryan, Brett, and Dustin met with one of the filmmakers and planned to meet in the future about the issues in Burma. From that moment their lives were never the same.

A journey of faith, inspired by a loving people 4 friends set out to accomplish the unthinkable. Watch and be inspired as well.
